Multinational no more

The U.S. Army is consolidating its forces in Iraq and giving units deploying there a new name in recognition of their altered roles in that country. Third Infantry Division soldiers are among those affected.

Hurricanes, Floods, and Earthquakes, Oh My!!

Well, it’s a wet and wild Friday and as happens in late Summer and Fall in Savannah, we have a big old storm parked right off the coast.

I’ve been working with several organizations in the County that help prepare for Hurricanes, Floods and storms of every type. And after volunteering during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, I felt it was important to always try to reach out to people in the community ...

Midway attraction reopens

From down south in Midway comes word that the town's wetlands interpretative center is now open seven days weekly.
The park, just off U.S. Highway 84 features a scenic boardwalk -- now fully handicap accessible -- along with a dock and an observation tower.
The center opens at 9 a.m. and closes at dusk. An official grand opening is planned for July 28.

General gets new assignment

A former top Fort Stewart officer, Lt. Gen. Lloyd Austin III, has been named to head the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He is currently the commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, N.C.

Austin served as assistant division commander for maneuver of the 3rd Division from July, 2001, until June, 2003. He left the Marne Division to become commanding general of the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y., and was ...
