The Savannah Stopover Music Festival has now unveiled the full schedule of shows by date, time and venue for the March 6-8 event. Headliners include Wye Oak on March 6, Those Darlins on March 7, and Oberhofer and Small Black on March 8 at Knights Of Columbus Hall at 3 West Liberty St.

Stopover also confirms that The Weeks will headline the free community concert in Ellis Square Saturday, March 8. Other slots include Kylesa headlining their Record Label Showcase at The Jinx on March 6, J. Roddy Walston & The Business at Congress Street Social Club on March 6 and Hurray For The Riff Raff at Moon River on March 8.

Moon River’s Beer Garden will also host the opening night concert and poster show on March 6, with Birmingham’s St. Paul & The Broken Bones. Club One will host three nights of synth pop and dance, including Future Islands on Thursday night.

The full schedule is available on the website and via Sched* and allows attendees to build their own personal
schedules.

Also confirmed is the final list of venues, reflecting the addition of City Coffee as an all ages venue.. Additionally, several intimate performances at Abe’s on Lincoln and at the Festival’s Artist Lounge have been added. Several of these
shows are ‘secret’ TBA shows that will be announced at the last minute.

Almost half of the performances throughout the festival will be “all ages” shows, organizers say. A discounted Under
21 three-day pass at $50 goes on sale 1/31/14 at noon.

The Savannah Music Festival has added a second show by The Avett Brothers at the Johnny Mercer Theatre to its slate for the 2014 edition of the Festival. The second show is Thursday, March 20, 8:30 p.m.

Tix go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the Trustees Theater Box Office at 216 E. Broughton St., by phone at 912-525-5050 and online at www.savannahmusicfestival.org. Cost ranges from $75-32.

The Avetts quickly sold out of their one-night performance at the 2011 Festival, and the initial show announced this year also sold out in similar rapid fashion, prompting the addition of the second gig.

Other late-breaking concert announcements include:

Jason Isbell, formerly of the Drive By Truckers and one of the nation’s leading alt-country/blues voices and songwriters, in a show March 23, 7 p.m., at the Ships of the Sea North Garden ($30).

Pokey Lafarge/Kristina Train in a double bill at the Charles H. Morris Center, March 29 at 5:30 & 8:30 pm and March 30 at 4 & 7 pm. Lafarge brings his retro jazz/funk stylings, while Savannah native Train is touring with a killer band which includes Paul Olsen (Scrapomatic), Mike Mattison (Scrapomatic, Derek Trucks Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band), guitarist Dave Yoke (Dr. John), pedal steel player Spencer Cullum (Justin Townes Earle), bassist Ted Pecchio (Susan Tedeschi) and drummer Tyler Greenwell (Tedeschi Trucks Band).

Today Telfair Museums, which comprises the Jepson Center for the Arts, the Owens-Thomas House, and the Telfair Academy, will close at 3 p.m.

All three sites will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29 and will re-open Thursday, January 30 at 10 a.m.

PULSE Art + Technology Festival at the Jepson Center will open on Thursday. The free festival has been extended through Monday. Telfair Museums opens Monday 12—5 pm.

Most PULSE events will continue as scheduled, but the opening lecture and reception will be added to the Thursday night line-up.

Here's the PULSE schedule for Thursday, January 30:

11 a.m. — as planned, student panel featuring artists Cuppetelli and Mendoza, and Rafaël Rozendaal.

6 p.m. — as planned, lecture by Rafaël Rozendaal, who will be joined by Cuppetelli and Mendoza.

7 p.m. — PULSE Opening Reception, which includes light appetizers and cash bar for beer and wine.

6 — 8 p.m. — as planned, projections by Rafael Rozendaal

7 p.m. — as planned, performance by Chalaxy, psychedelic alternative rock

We just got word that free General Admission tickets for "Flyin' West" the Ballet, performed by the Ballethnic Dance Company on Tuesday, February 4, as part of the 25th Annual Savannah Black Heritage Festival, are available now at the following locations: Savannah Civic Center Box Office; Lester's Florist, 2100 Bull St., & Cumulus Broadcasting, 214 Television Circle. Limit, 4 tickets per patron.

On the evening of the performance: Priority Seating for Ticket-holders until 10 minutes prior to curtain call at which time, all unclaimed seats become available.

The Festival is presented by the City of Savannah and Savannah State University.

Savannah Stopover Music Festival announced tonight that 17 local bands will join more than 80 touring bands during the three-day festival March 6-8.

The full lineup of touring acts will be unveiled on Jan. 14.

March 6th: Retro Futurist Records- (21+ Show) The new label founded by critically acclaimed and globally renowned Savannah metal band Kylesa will feature 4-5 bands at a special showcase Thursday night, 3/6 at The Jinx. Kylesa will headline. Other confirmed acts include Darkentries (Columbia, SC), Jagged Vision (Stavanger, Norway), Sierra (Kitchener, Ontario).

Laura Pleasants of Kylesa says:

"We're thrilled to have the very first Retro Futurist showcase in our hometown as part of the Savannah Stopover Music Festival. I think the showcase will offer concert goers a sample of atypical metal and rock —- heavy music that is unique, diverse, progressive and honest."

Peter Robaudo, Director of Talent and Systems Management for Stopover, says, “adding this heavier showcase to the festival not only supports our local labels, but broadens the spectrum of styles and talent.”

March 7: Soft Science Records -ALL AGES Show. The new label founded by Safe//Sound concert promotions founder Gus Mueller and Skip Terpstra will host a showcase on the patio at Congress Street Social Club Friday 4-8pm. Confirmed acts include J. Zaggers, Sauna Heat, Triathalon, and Gainesville FL band Cretin Girls.

March 8th: Furious Hooves- ALL AGES Show. The label founded in 2011 by local artist and musician Ryan McCardle and Virginian TJ Hatcher will present their showcase Saturday on the patio at Congress Street Social Club from 2-7pm. Acts include Anteo (Blacksburg, VA), Bedroom(Nashville), Hallucinex (Richmond), Blackrune (Savannah), mumbledust (Savannah).

“I think everyone in Savannah is honored and proud that these new record labels all call Savannah home. It’s a great opportunity for local talent to find a marketing and distribution platform as well as to showcase up and coming national and international talent to fans and the music industry alike," says Kayne Lanahan, Founder and CEO of the Savannah Stopover.

So what does that ginormous to-go cup you've heard about look like? The big reveal will happen at 8:30pm on Tuesday, December 31 in front of Wet Willies. The six-foot cup will be unveiled and raised to the starting platform for the midnight countdown.

Those Cats will kick off the celebration right after the reveal followed by A Nickel Bag of Funk.

The “Up the Cup” Countdown will start right before midnight followed by a firework display to officially ring in 2014. Festivities will kick off at 8pm and continue until 1am on the Rousakis Plaza Arbor Stage. This event is free & open to the Public.

Police are investigating a double shooting Christmas Eve that left a man dead and a woman injured.

Michael John Polite, 38, and Angela Johnson, 44, "were involved in a conversation with a man in an SUV near their residence on the 800 block of Elliott Street in west Savannah about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday," police say.

The man produced a weapon and fired, striking the two victims. Both were transported to Memorial University Medical Center where Polite died and Johnson was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward. A confidential Tip Line also is open directly to investigators at (912) 525-3124.

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Band-wise, KidSyc & Brandywine share the Hang Fire bill tonight with Atlanta’s funky Grand Prize Winners From Next Year. Kota Mundi and Consider the Source are at the Wormhole; Pilot Wave (from Florida) and City Hotel play the Jinx.

Saturday’s music includes the Isle of Hope Yuletide Jam (1-8 p.m. at Paxton Park) with Junkyard Angel, Andrew Gill Band, Keith & Ross, Jan Spillane and others. At night (7 p.m.), it’s the Homegrown Holiday Hoedown with the Accomplices, Train Wrecks and others at the American Legion Post on Bull Street. The great American Aquarium returns to the Jinx Saturday night, with the Savannah Sweet Tease Burlesque Revue as opening act. Saturday’s bands at Congress Street Pub are Ice Cream Man (celebrating the music of Van Halen) and Moby Dicks (that’d be Led Zeppelin).

The Collective Face Theatre Ensemble production of the romantic comedy Bell, Book and Candle continues tonight through Sunday at Muse Arts Warehouse; The Savannah Philharmonic’s weekend Holiday Pops concerts are sold out; The Muppet Christmas Carol screens at 7 tonight at the Lucas Theatre, with A Christmas Story in the same slot on Saturday.

Telfair Museums have announced the schedule and lineup of visiting artists for the PULSE Art and Technology Festival Jan. 29-Feb. 2.

Visitors to the Jepson Center can interact with PULSE installations at all times during the festival. Additionally, avant-garde visual artists from around the country present performances and give lectures that teach and illustrate new art forms. Video art will be projected onto the Jepson Center windows each night.

PULSE includes a family day with activities, artists’ demonstrations and performances. PULSE also includes offsite workshops and programs by local partners including Armstrong Atlantic State University, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Indigo Sky Gallery, the Creative Coast and the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools’ STEM Academy. Through funding from the City of Savannah, all PULSE events and activities are free of charge.

Performances include the return of award-winning beatboxer/visual artist Adam Matta, a Family Day performance by North Carolina musical contraption makers Invisible, a new interactive concert by Savannah’s own KidSyc and audiovisual performances by the Medeology Collective and Matthew Akers.

Exhibitions include "Physical/Digital: Interactive Video Sculpture" combining fiber art with high definition video to produce projection works mapped to physical strings on the gallery wall.

Gabe Barcia-Colombo creates figurative and image-based interactive projections on physical objects.

The Medeology Collective, a Savannah and Atlanta-based artist group, will create an interactive sculpture entitled Geometries of Power in the Jepson Center Atrium (Jan. 29-Feb. 2 only).

Looking at Something: Selected Work by Rafaël Rozendaal, who introduces himself as “a visual artist who uses the internet as his canvas.” The first artist to sell websites to private collectors, Rozendaal attracts international attention for his ability to transition internet art into physical settings. For PULSE, Rozendaal presents an installation of the website Looking at Something, which allows PULSE participants to change the weather from sunshine to a thunderstorm.

Play Together
A group of projects by local and visiting artists highlight work designed to be played by more than one person. Other works on view include Sari Gilbert and Robert Batchelor’s board game based on a historic Chinese trade map, Andrew Hieronymi and Erin McNeil’s four-player tactile game Conduit, Ross Fish’s conductive musical sculpture, and Lucy Sheils’ sound installation.

Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB), February 1, 6 — 8 pm / Jepson Center — Created by Rafaël Rozendaal, BYOB is an international series of one-night exhibitions that have taken place in almost 100 cities. Telfair Museums convenes selected artists, armed with video and projectors, at the Jepson Center to explore the art of projection.

Paul Frank’s Art Supplies Round Up Program in partnership with Blick Art Supplies stores is a nationwide art supply drive for kids in time for the Holidays. "The round-up program encourages people of all ages to donate new and gently used art supplies to non-profit organizations and national drives for schools and after-school art programs," a spokesperson says.

Paul Frank, Blick Art Materials and Utretch stores across the nation have placed donation bins near their registers in support of the round-up, with purchased donations supported by a special 20% discount at all retail locations. In addition, each store will also be working with a local children’s art non-profit to distribute donations throughout their local community till Dec. 31.
