Detectives are investigating a shooting injury that occurred at  8:30 p.m., Feb. 19, in the 4300 block of Rockdale Street.

"Sharon Fields, 57, was in her kitchen when she was grazed by a stray bullet following a shooting near her home. The victim was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries," police say.

Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred at  10:40 p.m., Feb. 17, in the 1300 block of Church Street.

"Officers responded to the report of a shooting in the area and discovered James Lamara Johnson, 37, deceased at the scene," police say.

"The suspect is described as a thin, dark-skinned, black male approximately 5'9" with a short haircut, believed to be late teens or earlier twenties. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray jacket over a black long sleeve shirt, running east on Church Street."

Police are asking the public's help in finding a possible suspect, Romaine Rontrez Gray.

Detectives are investigating an armed robbery and carjacking that occurred at 8:30 p.m., Feb. 17, in the 100 block of West 36th Street.

"Central Precinct officers responded to the area for an armed robbery that had just occurred. Two suspects reportedly approached the victim and one of the suspects struck him in the face. The two suspects fled the scene in the victim’s car," police say.

"Police located the car in the area of 37th Street and Hopkins and pursued the suspects until the vehicle wrecked at 52nd Street and Exchange. Following the accident, which resulted in minor damage to a police vehicle, the 15-year-old male driver was apprehended. He was treated at Memorial University Medical Center, questioned by police, and transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center," police say.

"The juvenile was charged with armed robbery and several traffic violations. The passenger in the stolen automobile, described as a short, black male in his late teens to early thirties wearing a black hoodie and dark pants, remains at large."

The victim was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department investigated a failed drug transaction turned robbery at approximately 9 p.m., Feb. 16, near a restaurant in the 2700 block of Montgomery Street.

Lloyd Ramon Bellinger, 40, is charged with conspiracy to commit a drug sale of Percocet.

SCMPD patrol officers, K-9, and detectives responded to the scene in reference to a report of an armed robbery.

"Upon further investigation, detectives determined the robbery was the result of a failed drug transaction," says Sonny Cohrs of the SCMPD Public Affairs Office.

Bellinger reportedly robbed the female victim with a BB gun and fled the scene. Patrol officers later observed an individual matching the suspect’s description, who was later identified by a witness at the scene.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s robbery detectives arrested a 13-year-old black female Feb. 15, in regard to the shooting and robbery of a pizza delivery driver that occurred at approximately midnight, Feb. 14, in the 1400 block of East Duffy Street.

Damiria Phillips was transported to the regional youth detention center and is being charged, as an adult, for armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police violent crimes detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m., Feb. 14, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Anderson Street.

Vencen Bentley, 23, was shot multiple times and is in stable condition at this time.

The suspect is described as a black male in his earlier 20s, average build, approximately 5’8”, wearing a blue Dickie outfit, with a possible black hoodie, and short dreads.

"The suspect was last seen running north through Frazier Homes," said Sonny Cohrs of the SCMPD's Public Affairs Office.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s violent crimes detectives are investigating a suspicious death that occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m., Feb. 15.

Ronald Forcier, 67, was found deceased with a gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Officers initially responded to a suspicious vehicle call at East 35th Street and Ott Street, where they found the victim.

"Witnesses reported hearing gunfire in the area," says Sonny Cohrs of the SCMPD Public Affairs Office. 

The events leading up to this incident are currently under investigation. The exact nature of death is pending an autopsy, which is scheduled for Feb. 17.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating a shooting and armed robbery that occurred at approximately midnight, Feb. 14, in the 1400 block of East Duffy Road­­­­.

"Jeffrey Willard, 20, was completing a pizza delivery in the area. Once he returned to his vehicle, the suspect approached him, brandished a weapon and demanded money. The victim complied, and the suspect made another demand before shooting. Willard received non-life threatening injuries," police say.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male in his late teens to early twenties, approximately 5’2 with a chubby build. He has short, light brown hair with loose curls and was wearing a light green hoodie. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police conducted several operations overnight Feb. 9-10 which led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of a substantial amount of drugs.

The Undercover Narcotics Investigation Team (UNIT), assisted by members of SWAT and violent crimes task force officers, took down a vehicle that led to the apprehension of David James Freeman and Aki Palmer.

"Freeman was a target of a drug investigation along with Palmer, who was also wanted for an outstanding warrant," said Sonny Cohrs of the SCMPD Public Affairs Office. "Both subjects are believed to deal various narcotics in the City of Savannah and Chatham County." 

Palmer and Freeman are being charged with trafficking in multiple types of illegal narcotics. Freeman is also being charged with possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. The UNIT also apprehended Jamal Henry at a residence and arrested him on felony drug charges.

During the operations, the following items were seized: 1 stolen firearm, 162 grams of powder cocaine, 511.3 grams of crack cocaine, 5 grams of morphine, 51 grams of heroin, 8 grams of molly, 743.3 grams of marijuana, and $15,596 in U.S. currency.

“Not only did we remove three criminals from the community, but we also stopped the distribution of more than $50,000 worth of illegal narcotics,” said Capt. Ashley Brown, Violent Crimes Task Force commander. “The success of this operation can be directly attributed to the hard work and dedication of the investigators, officers and SWAT operators who participated in this investigation.”

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes detectives have charged Travarius Gray, 21, with one count of felony murder, one count of malice murder and possession of a firearm/knife in the commission of a crime in the death of Jimmy Temple.

"Gray was served warrants at the Chatham County Detention Center, where he was being held on unrelated charges," noted Eunicia Baker of the SCMPD Public Affairs Office. 

The fatal shooting occurred in the early afternoon of October 29, 2015, near the 600 block of Yamacraw Village. 

At about 1:14 p.m. responding Metro officers observed Temple suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in serious condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.
