Faculty Explorations Lecture Series: James Longstreet - Confederate Judas
CSA General Longstreet enjoyed a most unusual post-Civil War career as he supported suffrage for freedmen and, most egregious of all, joined the Republican Party. He was excoriated by his former Confederate comrades as a traitor to his race and region. His story offers real insight into the war-torn South, the emergence of the Lost Cause and the course of southern history as it evolved under Jim Crow conditions in the early 20th century.
