Telfair Museums commissioned Savannah-based artist Katherine Sandoz to create a large-scale site-specific sculpture titled katniss, which forms a constellation of abstracted botanical shapes inspired by the aquatic Sagittaria plant genus. Suspended as unique, layered, acrylic elements from the ceiling, the installation transforms itself as you shift your location and perspective in the Jepson Center, aided by the ever-changing light conditions throughout the atrium. Dynamic and lively, the sculpture evolves in the manner of the native vegetation that inspired its arrangement.
