MEET HAIRY DAWG! Join the UGA Alumni and Fans in the St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Savannah Chapter of the University of Georgia Alumni Association is excited to announce that they will have a presence in the annual Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17. The UGA float will feature alumni from all over the Coastal Empire, along with Yvette Daniels, President of The University of Georgia Alumni Association Board of Directors, the UGA Redcoat Band Majorettes, and fan favorite mascot of the University, Hairy Dawg.

The University of Georgia was founded in Savannah in 1785 as the nation’s first chartered public university. Today, UGA continues to have a huge presence with over 9,700 alumni living in the Savannah area, along with research and public outreach sites and extension offices throughout the region

“We’re thrilled to be a part of such a beloved Savannah tradition and to showcase the strong Bulldog community that exists here,” said Ann Lerch, Savannah Chapter president. “Our participation in the parade is a way to celebrate our continued involvement and dedication to the University and connect with our alumni, friends, and fans.”

The UGA float will feature prominently in the parade, celebrating the University’s connection to the region and its commitment to serving the community.

JOIN US:

The Savannah Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association would like to invite local alumni and fans to walk in the parade with us on March 17. If you would like to walk the full route of the parade, make sure you wear red and black (and green) and wear comfortable walking shoes. The route is approximately 3 miles long.

Those who show up to participate and walk can interact and take photos with Hairy Dawg and the UGA Majorettes before the parade, which is scheduled to kick off around 10 a.m. and may not end until around 2 p.m.

NOTE: Our spot in the parade isn’t known until the day of the parade, and the exact time our float will enter the parade isn’t known. The float will be near Huntingdon St. near the downtown Kroger. The exact location won’t be known until the day of the parade. Look for Hairy Dawg and the big red float!
