PAGARAT FUNDRAISER FOR BEACH INSTITUTE, An Earth Day Commemoration

Come participate in support of a significant regional African American cultural resource, the PAGARAT: carrying implements used by African Seminole, maroons and other escapees AWAY from the plantation and chattel slavery. Pagarat are sustainable eco-cultural items used by those who liberated themselves and lived free—fighting back against enslavement. Join in the support of countervailing narratives to colonialism, antebellum prestige architecture and Confederacy. The PAGARAT exemplify the region wide struggle to resist slavery and plantations—past and present, physical and psychological! Participatory Music, film and robust dialogue. Special Tribute to Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, author of the ecological work, No Fear!
