In "Fields of Battle," noted sports author Brian Curtis recounts the tale of the 1942 Rose Bowl, the only Rose Bowl ever played outside of Pasadena, and its aftermath, which saw players on both teams shipped off to fight in a war “fought by ordinary boys who did the extraordinary.”
