For Immediate Release: Mar. 3, 2015 Contact: Tina A. Brown (912) 358-3378 [email protected] Savannah State offers SSU Media High summer program (SAVANNAH, Ga.) -- High school students interested in journalism and mass communications are invited to apply for SSU Media High, Savannah State University’s second annual two-week residential summer camp for digital media literacy. A program sponsored by the university’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, the camp will be held on the campus June 14 to 26, 2015. The intense camp will teach students how to create and deliver digital content for mobile devices, including tablets and smartphones. Those selected to participate will create apps for informational games and report multimedia stories for SSU Media High’s blog and social media platforms. Students will experience campus life and the local culture while exploring the global impact of media, and in doing so elevating the highest standards of journalism. “We are excited to once again provide a high-quality experience for high school students who want to learn skills to advance their knowledge in digital journalism,” said Wanda Lloyd, chairs of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Savannah State. “We know from our initial program last summer that high school students will walk away with a life-changing experience for digital journalism. In addition, the program will be an enjoyable orientation to university campus life.” Students, ages 14-17 who are interested in writing, editing, photography, broadcasting and social media may apply online at www.ssumediahigh.net. Students enrolled in the program are required to reside on campus during the two-week program. Students will be asked to contribute $200, a small portion of the overall cost. Some scholarships from media and corporate partners may be available for students who qualify. SSU Media High, through a partnership with the Savannah State University Foundation, is seeking grants and donations needed to defray some of the costs for the summer program.
