The Laughter After

Jorge Montero’s exhibition “The Laughter After” represents an exploration of our emotive responses to line. His exaggerated depictions of faces are intended to pierce into spectators’ minds while providing a refreshing after image. Montero achieves these images by transforming ink strokes on paper to brush strokes on canvas. Once simple expression becomes uncontrolled chaos in its manifestation. “The Laughter After” culminates a lifetime of drawing practice in an altogether different medium of expression. The result, works overwhelming in size and mental impression. The cognitive double exposure reveals our own inconsistencies in our modes of of engagement: : instinctual and reactive.
