In this beginning-to-advanced studio-based class, students will be guided through the process of creating master copies from a variety of artists to study their technical processes and mark-making. Working in oil paint, students will learn to transfer images from photos and estimate working processes by making studies from early English and French plein air artists to contemporary painters. Each class will explore an individual artist or genre style with a discussion of unifying or key techniques of each artist or style. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the development of landscape painting while developing individualized approaches and personal styles.
