Elders of the Stomach cement the status quo by not spotlighting self liberation and inalienable justice themes. That lack, while ensuring personal benefit, foils inter-generational vision, a Sankofa ideal. Indigenous knowledge then suffers. What is self-liberation when pre-made boundaries for acceptability saturate most narrative? Cliches, “giving back”, “keep them off the streets”, “thank you for your service”, “celebrate”, stifle would-be imaginative and creative action. Elders of the stomach, however, continue to feed. Feed the children instead! “… move to the rhythmic drumbeat of the status quo? … or will we listen to the beat of a more distant drum…”—M.L.K.
