Film: Darker Than Amber

Australian leading man Rod Taylor is best remembered for his leading role in Alfred Hitchcock's animals-against-man thriller "The Birds" as well as the 1960s sci-fi smash "The Time Machine." However, true fans of this hunky, charismatic star believe his greatest role was that of Florida private detective Travis McGee in this unjustly obscure 1970 action flick based on a series of popular pulp fiction novels by John D, MacDonald. Directed by Robert Clouse (who also made Brice Lee's famous "Enter The Dragon") it's a gritty crime flick set in Coastal Florida, and has rarely been seen since it flopped at theaters. However, critics and viewers adored the movie, and while it has never been released anywhere in the world on VHS, DVD or Blu-Ray (nor can it be found on digital streaming sites), the PFS has located what it believes to be the highest-quality print of the film known to exist.
